General Meeting of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association
Tuesday, 13 October 2009 - Mill Creek Banquets, Wauconda


President Dee Cavenaugh called the meeting to order at 12:15, and Jim Benton led us in the Pledge. There were 71 members present.

The minutes of the September meeting were approved as printed, and the printed treasurer’s report was filed for audit.

After lunch, program chair John Anderson introduced Edizon: keyboard, saxophone, and vocal entertainment.

Bob Kohler presented the slate of the Nominating Committee for 2010-2011:

President - Jim Benton
First Vice-President - John Anderson
Second Vice-President (program) - Angie Lulek
Secretary - Mary Kober

There being no nominations from the floor, a motion to accept the slate by acclamation passed unanimously.

Jim Benton pointed out assorted handouts available for the taking.

Marti Swanson suggested members encourage jobless college graduate relatives to apply for provisional teaching certificates and substitute for at least one day to qualify for the current pension system due to the proposal to change to a two-tiered pension system.

The IRTA convention is next week in Springfield.

Connie Reidel conducted the scholarship drawing. Kathy Dier was the winner of $37.

John Anderson announced that the program next month would be a return of Jim Carr, who will talk about his experiences as a docent on Amtrak.

Mary Abbott announced that potted chrysanthemum centerpieces would go to person number six at each table.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:25.
