Tuesday, 14 October 2008 - Country Squire. Grayslake President Dee Cavenaugh called the meeting to order at 12:08 and Jim Benton led us in the Pledge. There were 85 members present. The minutes of the September 9 meeting were approved as printed. Treasurer Ray Reidel’s report on the tables showed the following balances: Operations Fund - $1,462.10 Life Fund - $44,346. Legislative - $1,421.24 Foundation - $108. Killian Scholarship - $2,213.13 LCRTA Scholarship Fund - $6,249.58 After lunch, Jean Windberg told about the needed refurbishing and upgrading of the Waukegan High School auditorium . Checks can be made to the Trapp Auditorium Renovation Project. Program chair John Anderson introduced the program, “Miracles by Appointment,” by Bob Miller with a combination of magic (”doing the impossible”), comedy, and audience participation. The latter was aided by such notables as Mary Abbott, John Anderson, Gus Nizzi, Dick Schick, Dan Brotherton, Cathy Dier, and Jeanne Houle. President Cavenaugh noted that scholarship donations are going toward the LCRTA scholarship to be given this year in memory of Darwin Heide. Jim Benton located the hidden star in the optical illusion in today’s LCRTA “Update.” Person #3 at each table won the decorated mum. Connie Reidel conducted the scholarship drawing. Barb Hottle was the winner of $46, $26 of which she donated back to the fund. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 2:20.
