Tuesday, 13 May 2008 - Mill Creek Banquets, Wauconda After an 11:30 social hour, President Dee Cavenaugh called the meeting to order at 12:04. Jim Benton led us in the Pledge. There were 93 members present. The minutes of the April 8 meeting were approved as printed. After lunch, Program Chair John Anderson introduced the program, “Loose Change and Friends,” a blue grass and early American music group from Arlington Heights. Treasurer Ray Reidel presented his report, which showed the following balances: Operations Fund - $1,944.70 Foundation - $175. Life Fund - $44,046. Killian Scholarship - $2,213.13 Legislative - $1,489.84 LCRTA Scholarship Fund - $5,271.69 The report was filed for audit. Jodie Stewart presented information on the Trapp Auditorium Rehab Project; Jean Windberg is organizing fundraisers for this project. Rick Hutchinson, IRTA member recruiter, spoke briefly. Legislative chair Darwin Heide informed members about the changes in TRIP, including increased premiums, co-pays, and out-of-pocket expenses. The TRIP escrow will not be “swept.” The insurance booklet has been delayed, so options won’t be due until June 13. Scholarship chair Connie Reidel named our 2008 scholarship winners from among 37 applications:
Jim Benton noted that several folks correctly identified Mark Twain, so the winner, June Meyer, was selected by draw. Jim also presented awards to the following: Mary Abbott - Lake County Retired Teacher of the Year Marge Sikes - W.C. Petty Award Connie Reidel conducted the scholarship drawing. Marge Sikes was the winner of $35, which she donated back to the fund. Information on forthcoming council meetings was in the newsletter. Centerpiece plants were awarded to person #5 at each table.
