President Dee Cavenaugh called the meeting to order at noon and led us in the Pledge. There were 45 members present including new members Caroline Kearnes and Betty Kavagiannes, both of Woodland Middle School.

Members remained standing to honor the memories of Darwin Heide, Amy Loomis, Art Contois, and Sharon Wilborn.

The minutes of the 8 July 2008 meeting were approved as printed.

Treasurer Ray Reidel presented his report, which showed the following balances:

Operations Fund - $442.27
Life Fund - $44,346.
Legislative - $1,429.64
Foundation - $278.
Killian Scholarship - $2,213.13
LCRTA Scholarship Fund - $5,453.49
The report was filed for audit.

After lunch, Program chair John Anderson introduced the speaker, Judge Valerie Ceckowski of the 19th Judicial Circuit Court, who presented information and handouts.

Jeanne Houle announced that there will be four TRS pre-retirement meetings in Lake County this year (CLC-Oct 21, North Chicago-Oct 28, Highland Park-Nov 13, and Libertyville-Nov 19); and help is needed to cover all of them.

Marti Swanson commented on the dysfunctional state politicians and the August 26-27 hearings on the Canadian National Railway’s plans to take over the EJ&E lines in Lake County.

Jim Benton commented on a small infelicity in the LCRTA Update. He still had $2 IRTA pins.

Our October meeting will be at the Country Squire.

Connie Reidel conducted the scholarship drawing. John Anderson was the winner of $31.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 1:25.

Respectfully submitted,
Marti Swanson, unit meeting secretary
