Our Annual Retired Teacher Awards

Congratulations to Marge Sikes for receiving the W.C. Petty award! It is given "...to a retired teacher who has been identified as having performed long and distinguished service for the LCRTA and the IRTA."

Our Lake County Retired Teacher of the Year award went to Mary Abbott. She has been our Hospitality chair for many years. Mary is the first person you see at our monthly luncheons. She's responsible for table center pieces as well as our name tags. Congratulations on a job well-done!

2008 LCRTA's Scholarship Winners!

Jon Crawford, son of Karen and Don Crawford, is the Mary Jo Killian scholarship winner. He is a senior at Lake Zurich High School. Jon will be attending the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign campus) in the fall. He either plans to enter the field of adapted physical education or mathematics. He has been working with an elementary downs syndrom student for the past several years. He is very interested in special needs students. He played on Lake Zurich's football team.

Caitlyn Pickens, daughter of Gary Pickens, is one of two Lake County Retired Teachers Association scholarship winners. She is a senior at Grayslake North High School. She plans to major in mathematics. Where she will attend was not known at the time of her writing. She had been accepted at several schools. She has been very active in color guard and in various academic teams for her school. She is number one in her class.

The second winner of the Lake County Retired Teachers Association scholarship is Corin Lucy, daughter of Dan and Rita Lucy. She is a senior at Zion Benton Township High School. She plans to attend Wheaton and would major in secondary education to teach English. She is in band and active in the school's academic team. She is also involved in church activities.

A hearty congratulations to all three of our scholarship recipients! Each of these scholarships is for $1000, payable at the start of the 2nd semester of their college classes.
